Abstract
The Hydroprocessing of indole and o-ethyl aniline over presulfided CoMo, NiMo and NiW catalysts has been carried out using the batch method at various pressures and temperatures. The hydrodenitrogenation of indole was found to proceed via the intermediates indoline and o-ethyl aniline. The essential pathway of the HDN reaction of o-ethyl aniline is the saturation of the aromatic ring followed by the hydrogenolysis of the C N bond of the saturated amine. Direct hydrogenolysis of o-ethyl aniline to ethyl benzene occurs to a lesser extent. The o-ethyl aniline produced in the hydrodenitrogenation of indole inhibits the overall HDN reaction. Nickel-containing catalysts are more active than cobalt-containing catalysts.
