Abstract

In this paper, the particle—bubble interaction in flotation is analyzed and the potential energies of interaction are calculated. It is found that the hydrophobic interaction plays a predominant role in particle—bubble attachment. The so-called contactless attachment occurs only in the case of hydrophilic particle—bubble systems under proper conditions and is detrimental to flotation.
