Abstract

SUMMARY The rare basic hydrated magnesium carbonate minerals hydromagnesite and dypingite are reported from low temperature hydrothermal Pb–Zn deposits in the Alston Block of the Northern Pennine Orefield. Both minerals occur as very late stage constituents of deposits rich in barium carbonates. Apparently similar though uncharacterized magnesium carbonates are noted in very small amounts from elsewhere in the orefield.
