Abstract

A group of polyamides containing free hydroxyl groups has been prepared by polycondensations of diethyl- l-tartrate with various diamines under mild conditions of room temperature and without using a solvent and a catalyst. Loading of polyamide derived from ethylene diamine and tartrate with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid has been carried out by chemical modifications in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC). The effects of polymer backbone hydrophilicity, the medium pH and temperature on the hydrolysis rate of the polymers have also been investigated, although there is some uncertainty about the precise value of initial molecular weights of the polymer.
