Abstract

The hydrolytic destruction of cyanides in aqueous solutions is studied. The reaction can be described by a first-order equation with respect to cyanide, and its rate depends on pH. An analysis of the parameters of the Arrhenius equation and reaction rate coefficients implies that molecular prussic acid is predominantly involved in the hydrolysis. A mathematical model is created for predicting the development of cyanide removal over time at different pHs and temperatures
