Abstract

Hydroisomerization of n-hexane was carried out at atmospheric pressure in the temperature range 473–573 K over Pt-MCM-22. The influence of Pt content, the SiO 2/Al 2O 3 ratio of the zeolite and the reaction parameters on the isomerization efficiency of the catalyst was investigated. The optimum Pt content for the reaction was found to be around 0.5 wt.%. At a constant Pt content of 0.5 wt.%, increasing the A1 content of the zeolite increased the catalytic activities and isomerization/cracking ratios. The studies suggest that the reaction proceeds by a bifunctional mechanism. Preliminary activity comparisons between Pt—H-MCM-22, Pt—H-β and Pt—H-mordenite are reported.
