Hydrogenation reactions with RuCl 2(L-L) 2 (L-L = bidentate phosphine)

Abstract

RuCl 2(Ph 2P(CH 2) n PPh 2) 2 ( n = 1, 2, 3) catalytically hydrogenates olefins in polar solvents under moderate reaction conditions. The catalytic activity depends on the value of n, and improves in the presence of ammonium salts but decreases with large temperature increases. Hydrogenation of 1-hexene shows a first-order dependence on substrate, catalyst and hydrogen pressure.
