Abstract

The results of demonstration projects on development and testing of hydrogen fuel cell power units utilizing low-temperature metal hydrides of AB5 type as hydrogen storage and purification tool are presented. In the effort to enable the technology for autonomous applications, the novel concept of using fuel cell exhaust air for hydrogen desorption process replacing an external heating agent was successfully proved. The technology of through-flow metal-hydride based hydrogen purification was also successfully utilized for biohydrogen. The results of two proofof- concept projects show a good perspective for autonomous applications and open the opportunity for further research in the field of power system control.
