Abstract

1. A study was made of the kinetics of hydrogen isotope exchange of the methyl-, ethyl- and 1,1'-diethyl-ferrocenes in a mixture of deuteroacetic and trifluoroacetic acids. The introduction of alkyl groups raises the reactivity of the ferrocene nucleus to a much lesser degree than in the case of the benzene ring. 2. In the alkylferrocenes all of the hydrogen atoms of the ferrocene nucleus enter into the exchange, in which connection a difference in the reactivity of the different positions is not manifested in the rate of isotope exchange.
