Abstract
We present the first treatment of lattice relaxation around a single strong impurity within the “spherical solid model”. For a proton placed in the octahedral site of an f.c.c. aluminium lattice, we get 2.4% expansion for the first shell and a corresponding - 0.063 eV lowering of the heat of solution.
