Abstract

A new hydrogen-bonding ruthenium complex [C22H24N3]2[RuCl6]·4CH2Cl2 based on 8-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazo[1,5-a][1,8]naphthyridin-8-ium cation and RuCl6 anion has been synthesized and its structure has been characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, UV–Vis and IR spectroscopy. The structure being formed by [RuCl6]2− anion and 8-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazo[1,5-a][1,8] naphthyridin-8-ium cations. [C22H24N3]2[RuCl6]·4CH2Cl2 crystallized in monoclinic system. The two-dimensional (2D) network structure layer was constructed through intermolecular hydrogen bonds (CH···Cl). This ruthenium complex showed high catalytic activity for the cascade reaction of indoles with aromatic aldehydes and high to excellent yields are obtained with 10 mol % catalysts loadings in MeOH under mild conditions.
