Abstract

Intramolecular hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl groups and the π-electrons of unsaturated systems has been detected in a series of methyl esters of unsaturated long-chain monohydroxy acids. Some interpretations of the stereochemical and electronic aspects of this type of hydrogen bonding are discussed.
