Abstract

Infrared spectra of the 1:1 complex between water and pyridine in carbon tetrachloride solution have been registered between 4000 and 3100 cm −1. A band-shape analysis has been performed in which the band areas of the bonded and non-bonded OH stretching bands have been calculated. An intensity ratio of 8.6 was found between these, with a frequency shift of 290 cm −1. This ratio compares well with theoretical calculations, but differs considerably from that obtained in earlier experimental work.
