Abstract

Photolysis of ‘naphtho- o-carborane’ in the presence of excellent hydrogen donors such as 1,4-cyclohexadiene leads to quantitative double hydrogen abstraction. Other molecules, including supercoiled DNA, similarly act as hydrogen atom donors towards photolyzed naphtho- o-carborane. A diradical intermediate is proposed.
