Abstract

Abstract The hydriding/dehydriding properties of Mg2Ni alloy with excess Mg synthesized by wet ball milling in toluene have been investigated. The appearance of a particle surface after different milling methods is one obvious difference. The synthesis time must be at least 30 h to form intermetallic Mg2Ni by wet ball milling in toluene. The intermetallic Mg2Ni compound can be formed directly without annealing to recover from the amorphous phase, as reported in previous literature. The minimum hydrogen absorption/desorption pressure is 0.2 atm for the hydriding reaction and 0.3 atm for the dehydriding reaction at a temperature of 200 °C to obtain the maximum 3.5 wt% hydrogen content in toluene wet milling.
