Abstract

Ti and Cr composites with different compositions were prepared by mechanical alloying. Morphological, structural and compositional characterisation of the composites was accomplished by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and X-ray diffraction. The composites showed improved H 2 absorption and desorption kinetics compared to Ti. Improved kinetics is thought to be related to the formation, at the surface of the composite, of a Ti and Cr intermetallic compound with good activation properties.
