Abstract
With four columns of diameter between 10 and 40 cm, it has been possible to make a systematic study of the rising motion of air bubbles of various volume through liquids of different viscosity. The evolution of the bubbles shape with increasing volume is studied and a relation between frontal diameter and volume is proposed; once more, the relation U = KV n is confirmed between the volume V and the velocity of ascension U, K and n depend on physical properties of the liquid. Interpretation of results is possible with dimentionless numbers C D , Re and M. Study is made of the influence upon the velocity of ascension of the proximity of the walls. For very viscous liquids, the curve proposed by UNO and KITNER [6] ceases to be valid. In the present work, the field of slug flow is just reached, with these columns of important diameters.
