Abstract

A simple two-phase version of the κ-ϵ turbulence model has been applied to describe the hydrodynamics of a vertical riser reactor. In parallel with the model development, a series of experiments using a mobile gamma camera apparatus have been performed for direct measurement of the radial distributions of velocity and solids density which occur in a cold-flow riser. Finally, consequences of the observed flow segregation have been explored in calculations of the resulting reactor selectivity behavior.
