Abstract

The proposal of this work is to emphasize and illustrate the importance of the knowledge of the lagrangian residual circulation as a tool in the waste disposal selection in an environment with complex geometry where the transport of pollutants is convection-driven. A model for the computation of the lagrangian residual circulation is also presented. The application to the Sado estuary (Portugal) is made and the results are compared with these of an eulerian residual model. The waste disposal analysis, concerning the location (in space and time) of the discharge of the waste water is made using the results of the model.
