Abstract

Autonomous amphibious robot has a wide application able to move on land and sailing in water condition. In this paper, we design a new structure for autonomous amphibious robots, which can convert to water mode when coming through a water obstacle. Research on the hydrodynamic performance of amphibious robots in static water is carried out. To evaluate the impact of wave conditions on sailing characteristics, wave numerical simulation is studied. Results show that wave conditions will increase the resistance at low and medium velocities, with a maximum of 40% resistance increase at a speed of 1.5 m/s. The wave simulation model can capture wave dynamic flow well, including wave dissipation and turbulent energy loss.
