Abstract

Based on a potential flow vortex panel method for calculating vertical-axis tidal current turbine, the detailed numerical analysis is presented on the hydrodynamics of this kind of turbine under the influences of different principal parameters such as tip speed radio(TSR), blade number, and the position of blade self-pitching axis. The turbine’s power coefficient and rotor’s instantaneous forces are also summarized under those above parameters. All these results are important bases for the selection of the principal parameters, structure design and optimization of this kind of tidal turbine.
