Abstract

Hydroconversion of m-xylene on catalysts containing Pt, Re and PtRe on H-mordenite (HM) was investigated in a pulse micro-reactor in flowing hydrogen at atmospheric pressure and temperatures between 300 and 400°C. The extent of m-xylene hydroconversion, the selectivity for p-xylene production and the hydrodealkylation of m-xylene for the catalysts was of the order PtReHM ≫ PtHM > ReHM. Disproportionation of m-xylene did not occur on PtReHM but took place on the two other catalysts. Some ring saturation took place at lower temperatures on PtHM and PtReHM. Ethylbenzene was not detected in any reaction product.
