Abstract
Hydrocarbons are quite abundant in modern society, which includes kerosene, lubricating oil, paint, glues and solvents. Initial hydrocarbon exposure can lead to pneumonitis resulting in ventilation—perfusion mismatch and hypoxemia. CNS toxicity in the form of seizure can be as a result of severe hypoxia. Isolated cases of hydrocarbon induced seizure have been reported in young children after gastrointestinal, dermal and inhalation exposure. We report a case of hydrocarbon poisoning of a child who experienced hypoxia leading to severe episodes of tonic posturing of limbs.
