Abstract

A relationship was established between texture, stresses and hydride orientation in zircaloy tubes. It was established that the lamellar precipitates of zirconium hydride arranged themselves within a limited angular range which depends on the texture. This angular range can be regarded as an orientation range for the habit planes of the zirconium hydride precipitates and encompasses positions in the unit triangle of α zirconium within a range of 5° to 20° from the [0001] pole of α zirconium. The orientation of precipitates by means of stresses is only possible within this angular range.
