Abstract
Reaction of two equivalents of (Bu4N)[B 3 H8] with a variety of metal halides (TiBr4, TiCl4, WCl6, or GeCl4) results in nearly instantaneous hydride abstraction and the formation of THF.B3H7. Subsequent reactions with bidentate phosphanes lead to the first triborane(7)-phosphane complexes with a bridging phosphane ligand: (B3H7)-P(Ph2)-(CH2) m -P(Ph2)-(B3H7) ( 1 , m = 1; 2 , m = 2; 3 , m = 4; 4 , m = 6). (Compounds 1–4 also can be made in “one-pot” syntheses.) Compounds 1–4 and the previously reported Ph3P·B3H7 are characterized by 11B and 31P NMR spectroscopy.
