Abstract

ABSTRACT The influence of H3BO3 on the hydration of calcium sulfoaluminate and calcium aluminate phases was investigated. The addition of H3BO3 affected the solubility and the dissolution rate of calcium sulfoaluminate and calcium aluminate particles. In particular, the Al ion concentration was shown to be very low in the H3BO3 solution. The gelatinous products were also observed when the solution of calcium aluminate was reacted with H3BO3 solution. These gelatinous products were constituted by the basic Al ions with incorporated B ions and great quantity of water. Overall, these gelatinous products form the impermeable layer on the surface of the particles of calcium sulfoaluminate and calcium aluminate particles, and interrurrt the diffusion process of the other ions, e.g. Ca2+ and SO4 2-.
