Abstract

AbstractWe report a case of hydatid disease at the proximalend of the clavicle of a 47-year-old woman. In an open biopsy, laminated layers, characteristic of Echinococcus multilocularis larvae, were revealed by periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining. A marked foreign-body reaction was observed in the pathological findings. The patient was definitely diagnosed as having osseous hydatid disease. We performed resection of the infected part of the clavicle, and after the operation, she has been cured under medication with albendazole for 9 years, with no finding of recurrence in the clavicle.
