Abstract

This paper proposes a hybrid renewable and conventional power system for water supply applications in Dubai. Dubai is located in United Arab Emirates. The application uses solar panels and turbines in the renewable power system part besides Diesel generator in the conventional power system part. The proposed design considers weather conditions. It incorporates values of humidity, temperature, and wind speed in order to consider these parameters and their impact on solar irradiance which affects the operation of solar panels. The design considers the issue of limited rainy days in Dubai during winter season. Considering these factors, providing water to such far zones is important task. The system uses regulator to stabilize the DC voltage from the solar power system, battery bank to store that voltage, three-phase rectifier to convert the voltage of wind turbines to DC, transformers to reduce the wind turbines' AC voltage and Diesel generator's AC voltage, and DC motor as the system output. ANN is used to predict solar irradiance over 10 years. The proposed system is demonstrated with SIMULINK and MATLAB.
