Abstract
For Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the central challenge is improving the network lifetime as the sensor nodes energy constrained. The drainage of energy in WSN leads to entire network failure; therefore designing energy efficient communication model for WSN is demanded. There are multiple areas through which energy efficiency possible mainly routing protocol and MAC (Medium Access Control) protocols. In this paper, we contributed energy efficient solutions for both routing layer and MAC layer protocols. First we designed routing protocol which is mainly based on existing IECBR (Improved Energy Efficient Chain Based Routing). IECBR utilized the HBO technique for optimum node selection process. To improve performance of HBO based IECBR, we modified HBO approach with autonomous localization based eligible energetic selection algorithm which secure that nodes in the network are not remove of the energy for their threshold, as the load is shared with other nodes, when the energy of a node in the shortest path has arrive its threshold. Moreover, to enhance the energy efficiency, we modify the MAC protocol based on dynamic backoff algorithm called Improved Sensor MAC (IS-MAC). The contention window (CW) is dynamically adjusted in proposed MAC to handle the network load effectively so that energy efficiency achieved. The simulation results showed that, the efficiency of innovated solution in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption and throughput.
