Abstract
In the last two decades, mode coupling in optical waveguides has found considerable attention. A variety of different formulations have shown their usefulness to describe and predict mode coupling phenomena (e.g. [l]-[3]). However, most of the publications considered only mode coupling between different waveguides or mode coupling in waveguides with anisotropic materials.
