Abstract

The development of pollen grains in cytoplasmic male-sterile rice plants was observed. Their anthers are slender and contain globular but small pollen grains which are not deeply stained by iodine. Meiosis is normal and pollen tetrads are normally formed, but the microspores do not develop beyond the one-nucleate stage. The tapetum appeared normal.
