Abstract

A design for solar and diesel hybrid power system is proposed for electric boat operating by solar PV array with optimization by Maximization Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system and diesel generator that uses diesel oil for the propulsion system while considering the changes of solar irradiance caused by weather factors such as humidity, temperature degree, and the speed of wind. The hybrid system output is a three-phase asynchronous machine for moving the electric boat. Solar power is a vital electricity source for supplying the required electrical needs to the boat since it is clean and renewable. Battery operation determines the choice between diesel and solar power for supplying the electrical loads for the boat. Solar irradiance forecasting was considered by using Neural Network for planning the operation of the hybrid power system that operates the electric boat. Simulation results for the hybrid system as well as the solar irradiance forecasting are presented using MATLAB and SIMULINK.
