Abstract

The interatomic potential of the ground 1Σ g + state of 24Mg 2 is approximated by a variety of Morse hybrid potential functions. These are constructed from a Morse potential for short and intermediate separation and the long range dispersion attractions. We emphasize the need for uncoupling the two forms to produce realistic potentials.
