Abstract

With conversion efficiencies reaching impressive levels, perovskite absorber materials are yet to overcome the limitation of poor air stability in order to realize their true potential in solar photovoltaics. The advantages of single crystalline organo-lead iodide perovskite has been traced to their better diffusion length and mobility compared to solution processed poly crystalline perovskite films, which in turn results from high phase and material purity and a lesser number of defects. However, growing large sized perovskite single crystals with reasonable air stability remains a challenge. In this context this report presents the synthesis of large single crystals of MAPbI3 with an impressive ambient shelf life extending to several weeks, using a simplified Inverse Temperature Crystallization (ITC) method at open room conditions. Further, the crystals thus grown are found to have an extended absorption up to 840 nm.
