Abstract
We present a hybrid one-way and full-way wave equation propagator and its application to prestack depth migration. In this hybrid method, a true amplitude one-way propagator is applied in less complex media, while a full-way propagator is applied in extremely complicated media. For prestack migration, the source and receiver wavefields are independently extrapolated using the hybrid propagator. Frequency-space domain and time-space domain imaging conditions are applied in one-way and full-way extrapolations, respectively. To improve the efficiency and reduce the wavefield noise, this hybrid method is able to perform a target oriented migration. Only portion of the data, which has most contributions to the target event located in the complicated media, are migrated using the full-way propagator. Numerical tests on synthetic data sets demonstrate that the hybrid method produces the highquality depth image with less noises and high-efficiency.
