Abstract

In this study, NiCo-layered double hydroxide (LDH) was fabricated in situ on the surface of CB-poly(methacrylic acid) (CB-PMAA) to form CB-PMAA/LDH nanocomposite. CB-PMAA was prepared via the radical polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) monomer onto the surface CB molecules. CB-PMAA/LDH was identified by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDS, and STA analyses and applied as a robust catalyst for the quick fabrication of biologically active polyhydroquinoline derivatives using unsymmetric Hantzsch reaction. CB-PMAA/LDH exhibits high reactivity for the construction of polyhydroquinolines with high yields (90-97%) under mild reaction conditions and short reaction time (10-20 min). Additionally, CB-PMAA/LDH can be straightforwardly recovered and used up to six reaction cycles without a conspicuous decrease in efficiency.
