Abstract

Abstract This chapter covers hybrid forms of peace emerging in the contemporary layers of the international peace architecture. This raises issues of historical injustice, global inequality, and long-term sustainability. Hybrid political order and hybrid peace is formed through political contestation involving a range of actors, their preferences, and security interests. An everyday form of peace is its objective. It raises the question of how local forms of legitimacy, or alternative political, social, and economic systems, and norms of peace can engage with the international system. The chapter then looks at peace formation and counter-peace processes. Counter-peace strategies operate to preserve privileges, access to power, and resources.
