Abstract

With the increasing consumer demand for electric power, centralized power plants are being replaced by decentralized power plants. Sometimes, due to numerous faults, there are problems with electric power production. This problem has frequently been overcome by the commissioning of hybrid electric power systems. By employing hybrid systems, it is possible to install a solar photovoltaic array and synchronize its generation of electric power with conventional large-scale power generation systems. It has been observed that the hybrid system offers the best solution in terms of energy production and the generation of high-quality electric power at output. It is possible to operate two or more renewable energy sources (RESs) through effective and efficient controlling systems. Moreover, the renewable energy sector has been supported by the Indian Government in recent times. Additionally, numerous policies for granting financial aids are being framed to promote research-based activities in renewable energy. Hybrid systems have therefore become a reliable option for achieving the availability of uninterrupted electric power for rural and remote areas. However, the integration of RESs may pose some immediate power quality problems. These problems can be overcome by implementing power conditioning systems. This chapter deals with the design of different modes of hybrid energy systems in order to understand whether their operation is possible under various variable constraints.
