Abstract

Green hydrogen is a potential contributor to a more sustainable transportation system. In this paper, we present our experiences and insights gained from an industrial-scale green hydrogen refilling station, marked by the innovative hybrid Edge–Cloud electrolyser system (EMS) employed in this context. Hybrid EMS can improve system performance, adapt to dynamic conditions, and continuously improve efficiency, even under unpredictable load and low storage situations. It also allows the centralized monitoring of future hydrogen production sites to facilitate the operation and maintenance and, in the long-term vision, to enable the joint coordination of the plants flexibilities in the service market as a virtual plant, thus increasing the cost efficiency. Through a real-time digital-model based assessment of the EMS, this study offers valuable lessons learned and findings, contributing to a deeper understanding of EMS in green hydrogen infrastructure.
