Abstract

Numerical calculations on E1 transitions in the radium and thorium isotopes are presented based upon a hybrid U(6) ⊗ U(4) cluster model. The different cluster properties of well deformed and near spherical radium and thorium nuclei are discussed in terms of the relative B(E1)/ B(E2) reduced transition matrix element ratios that show different dependents on J. They are related to simple changes in the IBA part of the model.
