Abstract

Nowaday study is focused on the mechanical properties of hybrid carbon-glass fiber composite material for the door electric car in order to reduce cost and maintain crashworthiness probability. The hybrid carbon-glass fiber reinforced plastics are investigated experimentally. The decrease of carbon fiber volume fraction influenced the tensile strength and costs of material are decreased, but the weight density is increased. The finite element method (FEM) simulations of body electric car model are investigated by varying the crush load and the thickness of material. The mechanical properties of material from the experiment results are used as input properties of material in the simulation. The simulation result show that, the higher volume fractions of glass fiber are affected decrease to the factor of safety level, but factors of safety level of the door design are still allowed for human use. The result can become recommendation for further development material of manufacturing low cost green electric car.
