Abstract
Purpose: Hyaluronan and proteoglycan link protein 1 (HAPLN1) has been known to play a role in the extracellular matrix (ECM) integrity by stabilizing the physicochemical interaction between aggrecan and hyaluronan chain. Our research group has previously identified a novel function of HAPLN1 which restores skin collagen and hyaluronan levels reduced during aging through the heterochronic parabiosis and aptamer-based proteomic analysis. Chondrocytes intimately communicate with their ECM by means of biochemical cues as well as mechanical intermediators.
