Abstract

A Daly metastable ion detector system has been modified by modulating the detector voltage and measuring the ion current signals with a lock-in amplifier locked to the modulation frequency. This modulated detector system allows HV and mass-analysed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) metastable ion spectra to be obtained using a single-focusing mass spectrometer.
