Abstract

In order to develop a 2 μm band solid state laser with high peak power and high beam quality, we construct a laser diode single-end pumped Q-switch Tm∶YLF laser, the central wavelength of which is 1 879 nm and actively Q-switched using an acoustic-optics modulator working at a repetition frequency of 2 kHz. The output peak power up to 100.2 kW is achieved with the single pulse energy of 5.25 mJ, the shortest pulse width of 52.2 ns, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 33% and an optical conversion efficiency of 30%. The output beam shows the good beam quality of M<sub>x</sub><sup>2</sup>=1.51 and M<sub>y</sub><sup>2</sup>=1.71. The laser has high peak power and excellent beam quality, which can be widely used in the fine processing of transparent plastics, laser medical treatment, industrial laser marking and other fields.
