Abstract
Humid Ceylon needs planned irrigation mainly because rainfall is unevenly distributed both seasonally and geographically, and predominating rice culture requires controlled water supply throughout growing season; description of modern multi-purpose river basin projects and aspects of serious drainage difficulties resulting from special needs of rice culture.
