Subacute stress or repetitive over-exertion produces osteoblastic reaction at the bony insertions of the affected muscles. Stress periostitis is a mild phase in the continuum of traumatic injuries which could progress to true fractures. Most commonly seen in the tibiae of runners or aerobic dancers, this report illustrates a tennis player and a baseball pitcher with stress periosteal reactions in their humeri, suggesting that mechanisms analogous to «shin splints» may be operative in the arm
