Abstract

We live in a new world made and remade by many factors ranging from disruptive technological revolutions, globalization, conflict and migration, depletion of national resources and environmental degradation, and deterioration of traditional protective institutions. Their impact on the local and regional economic development process appears to become more pressing, and the magnitude of the challenges is immense. There is a circular and cumulative relationship between these issues and local and regional economies, in some cases resulting in a vicious cycle that requires a clear understanding of the entire set of factors to interrupt this cycle. This paper tries to understand the relationship between these factors within the local and regional development framework.
