Yoder is an associate professor and associate dean of students in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University. His philosophic interests range from health care and environmental ethics to American pragmatism and the philosophy of religion, especially religious naturalism. He has published articles in the Hasting Center Report; the American Journal of Bioethics; the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture; and the American Journal of Theology and Philosophy.
