Abstract

EnglishFifty years that went by since the promulgation of Humanae vitae underline its prophetic import and relevance. The rejection of the encyclical was associated –as already denounced by Paul VI (HV, 17)– with the loss of truth concerning human love and life, the negation of human person, and the domination of the powerful over the weak. This article reflects on some aspects that render this encyclical prophetic and offers several indispensable keys for its reading, namely, an adequate anthropological vision and a correct interpretation of the Magisterium’s competence in the Church with regard to issues concerning natural morality.
