Abstract
With the use of a highly specific radioimmunoassay for oxytocin, no increase was found in urinary oxytocin at any stage of pregnancy or labor. Since an increase could be produced by an infusion of oxytocin at a rate as little as 1 mU. per minute, these results suggest that the total increase in circulating endogenous hormone in spontaneous labor is very small.
